Essex County RFU Cup Competitions - Draws updated 07/01/07

Weekends Headlines

National Two - The welcome return of Ben Montgomery helped Barking achieve its third win of the season.  Going behind after five minutes with a try by Harrogate acted as a wake up call for the task ahead and Barking quickly came back with a try of their own.  The match turned round at half time with Barking 15 - 11 ahead but an excellent display in the second half lifted the final score to 34 - 11.  The result still leaves Barking in the bottom three with all to play for in the second half of the season.

National Three South - A pep talk by Director of Rugby Kevin Harman and the inclusion of new signing, Andy Saull on loan from Saracens Academy, was all that was required to put Southend back on track for promotion this season after last weeks defeat by Westcombe Park.  Travelling to third placed Havant the team knew that they were going to have to get back to winning ways.  With a 20 - 34 win away from home Southend are now firmly back on track 6 points ahead of Westcombe Park who yesterday beat Bridgewater & Albion 33-14. Next week they take on Romford & GP in the Essex County RFU Senior Cup

London 2 North: Another close one this weekend for Eton Manor who just lost out to St Albans 18 - 16.  A similar points margin separated Tabard from Thurrock as Thurrock loose 21 - 19.  Chingford however were able to scrape a win against bottom club Twickenham 5 - 10, whilst Woodford recorded a 29 - 11 win over Letchworth.  The weekends results leaves Chingford in fourth place just 5 points behind league leaders Tring.  Thurrock are sixth with Eton Manor eighth and Woodford tenth.

London Three North East - All the top four clubs in Three North East recorded wins this weekend leaving the positions unchanged and only three points separating them.  Bury remain top with a 21-14 win over Braintree, Harlow follow up just one point behind after a close 30 - 24 win over Campion.  Brentwood in third place beat Hadleigh 48 - 12 whilst Romford & GP beat Diss 12 - 5 . After last weekends impressive display against Colchester, Rochford lost to Ipswich 29 - 17 and are in fifth place whilst Colchester in eighth beat third from bottom Westcliff 13- 6

London Four North East - Upminster had to pull out all the stops against Basildon to win this local derby 10 - 14 and stay top of London 4 North East.  Saffron Waldon with a game in hand keep up the pressure with a 21 - 0 win over Crusaders.  Chelmsford's challenge received a set back as they went down 5 - 0 to Beccles and fourth placed Sudbury were beaten 8 - 6 by Wisbech.  Canvey Island climb into mid table position with an excellent 8 - 26 win over Stowmarket.

Essex One - A top of the table clash was the inviting spectacle at Billericay as South Woodham Ferrers sought to topple the league leaders, but Billericay were able to firmly established their promotion hopes with a 32 - 17 win as they prepare themselves for next weekends RFU EDF cup match against mid table Uckfield from Sussex 1.  Despite the loss SWF are two points ahead of Maldon who beat Ilford Wanderers 37 - 7.  Dagenham consolidated their fourth place with a 22 - 10 win over Wanstead and Writtle Wanders move to fifth with a 46 - 0 win over East London.  Bancroft recorded their second win of the season with a 5 - 15 win over Upper Clapton but remain in bottom place.

Essex Two - Millwall continue to lead Essex two with an 18 - 22 win at Burnham.  Millwall just lead Old Brentwoods on points difference after Old Brentwoods beat Loughton 64 - 12.  Clacton lie in third place after beating Thames 56 - 0.  Old Cooperians are chasing the top three and are in fourth place with a 7 - 18 win over Pegasus-palmerians.

Essex Three -  Witham beat Ravens 41 - 0 to remain top of Essex Three with Kings Cross Steelers staying in second place after they could only manage a draw this week against third place Onger.  Stanford's new strip appears to have brought them a change in fortunes as they beat Brightlingsea 46 - 5.

Sunday - County News - Essex U20's start their campaign in the RFU U20's County championships with an away match at Aldershot on the 4th February against the Army.  This match will be followed up with home matches against Surrey at Barking on the 11th February KO 2.15pm and against Hampshire on the 25th February at Southend KO 2.30pm.  Your support at these matches would be most welcome.
