Essex County School of Rugby
Important information
Having carried out a full review of the first year of the Schools of Rugby, Essex County RFU have taken steps to ensure the County builds on the success of this new RFU initiative.
Importantly the County has taken steps to ensure that Essex stays at the front of Youth development by ensuring it provides a programme that fully benefits the talented players in the County and enhances what is in the best interests of the County as a new Constituent Body.
The 2008/9 school of rugby will follow the programme below, by starting in the summer it will ensure that the development sessions will be held in good conditions ensuring they are intense and of a high level.
Nominations are now sought for the U13 age group, these players will be new to the programme, in addition clubs and schools are invited to nominate up to 3 additional players at U14, U15 and U16 age groups who have previously not been selected for the school of rugby, any club wishing to nominate more than 3 players must provide supporting information (support from other club or school coaches for example) as to why these extra players should be assessed.
Only players nominated for the school of rugby will be eligible to represent the County in the County representative matches.
Jayson Ball has been appointed as manager of the school of rugby for 2008/9 with Leigh Marshall assisting at the U16 age group which provides the first step to international honours.
It is intended that players not selected for the School of Rugby will be able to receive additional coaching during the season as part of a development group to provide more exposure and opportunities for them to develop.
The County also intends to run a front row school of rugby for players who may wish to specialise in this area of the game, players can be nominated for this group even though they currently play a different position.
